stock piped 701 overheating....any ideas

Friend has a stock 701 with a stock pipe and its overheating,Ive never owned a stock pipe ski,no clue where its cloged, checked all the basics with air compressor, blows clean out the pump and pisser, motor will not get hot on the hose with even a small amount of water running through it,but in the water it overheats in just a few min, where would the issue be in the pipe if air flows through it clean?

c heck the fitting on the pump, and any 90 degree fiting on the motor or pipe.

The fitting on the back the pipe that the water goes in from the pump is the only one I cant see,but air flows through it fine? is there any smaller water jackets in a stock pipe that typically clog?

If it doesn't overheat on the hose, but it does in the water, then that pretty much singles out the section of the cooling system that you don't use when it's on the hose.

Ive had this issue with ada heads and orings, but Ive never seen it with a stock head and fiber gasket like this ski has,You can usually hear it in the pissers as well.
Im aware the prob would be in between the area not used when on the hose, this is the pipe area,I just have no clue how a stock pipe is set up and where it could be clogged,I know where the factory pipe and the riva red clog in the water jacket, but dont know if the stock pipe works like this, just dont wana tear the entire thing off if there is a easy fix I dont know about.

maybe your water jacket around the cylinder is clogged. Over a period of time, crap can build up around the jacket and clog up the water flow. It happed to a buddy of mine on his stock 650 that he only rides in fresh water. After a few years, it built up calcium deposits and and started running real hot...especially in this hot summer temperature

hmm interesting,Dont think this is the case here,he says it use to run fine, then the top end was rebuilt and ever since it has had this prob,Im assuming the pipe laid around in the garage and got trash it in somewhere and was put back on,now its overheating? does anyone have any idea on how the stock pipe would be clogged but still pass air through it?

Maybe the headgasket was not right or put on improperly when they did the rebuild. Some cooling holes may not line up.

The motor is not really under load when on the hose.

I'll go with Mat on this one!
The early 61x headgasket will not work on a later model superjet head (96-up).
You can however, use the 62t late Superjet gasket on all years of heads. When the 61x heagasket is used with the late model head the cooling holes get blocked by the new designed bridges in the water jacket holes.

I have a ski here that the girl over heated it enough to burn the paint off of the head and cylinders. Melted the temp sensor right out of the head. The only thing wrong with the motor is the head gasket was melted and the ski lost compression. The water hose at the pump is clogged sorta air flows through it but when you put water through it it just doesn't get enough.

hmm,you got me thinking bout this head gasket especially since the air seems to flow through so free with the compresor on all hoses.found out the motor is a 650,but the guy that put it together is a well known 2 stroke builder in the area, maybe he made a mistake on the gasket? does the stock pipe clog very often? Supposedly the ski over heats pretty bad even on the trailer in the water with very little throttle, the pipe gets very hot also,I suppose if the gasket wasnt letting water through the pipe into the cylinder this could happen as well,I wish I had a pos stock pipe laying around to look at,never even seen one before lol
