stock finger throttle sucks...

yesterday me and a couple guys broke are skis out for the first time this season it was great and I love my 701 and the revs, but the stock finger throttle is killing me. I have the same problem on my friends olds square. I don't know if its the way my finger moves or what but my middle finger keeps getting in between the grip and the throttle. I was wearing some pretty thick neoprene gloves and by the end of the day my middle finger was swollen and almost bleeding. would there be any negatives to just flipping the stock throttle upside down and using it as a thumb throttle? one of the guys had a umi angled throttle and that felt like it would help the situation but I don't know if it would fix it. what companies offer something like the umi angled throttle?

I dont have any answers, but I have the exact same problem with my square. I thought it was just me. are you supposed to use just your index finger, or that and your middle too? maybe you could grind off and inch or so off the lever?

I tried that my finger just always ends up back under the lever and its killing me. I could barely move it by then end of the day.

You could try grips with flanges as well as moving the throttle in a little like the others have suggested. The flanges ought to stop your hand from going in as well.

I thought about that but I think it will put my thumb in an uncomfortable position or not on the grip.

It shouldn't - I used to have flanges and a stock throttle and had everything set up so that I could comfortably clamp the throttle without squishing my middle finger. I think you just need to experiment a bit. I don't think you can spin the lever round and use it as a thumb throttle, although you could replace it with a thumb throttle I guess - you wouldn't be the first.

I will play with it a bit. does any one know if the xmetal throttle needs the adapter? could you run an after market throttle as a thumb throttle?

Have you tried riding using both your index and middle finger on the throttle? I do and it feels natural to me, but maybe to others it doesnt. If you cut some of the lever off and leave just enough for your index finger then your middle finger cant get in the way. I guess you would need to make some type of curve at the end of the lever to keep your finger from sliding off the throttle.

Yup.. I use two fingers on the throttle and my thumb, ring and pinky finger to hang on with.. Never had a problem holding on, plus it allows better throttle control in rough water.. or so it seems to me.

I had the same problem. I moved the stock throttle over, and got some ODI X grips with the 3/4 flange. I put the flange so it hit between my thumb and finger, and it kept my hand from sliding over.
