steering mod help and input

o.k. my buddy screwed up his Yamaha suspension steering, and couldn't afford a umi, so we started mocking up a Yamaha steering off of another ski. now my question is what do you guys think about the importance of how high the handlebars come up? should they be lower, closer to the hood or higher up? what are the advantages or disadvantages of either?
just looking for some input. and hopefully be able to get this really cool mod done for alot of people that ride blasters, without dropping 300.00 plus..

if you need any stock blaster steering components, PM me. I just put a billet steering system on my 94 B1, so I have everything from the stock setup just laying around

i run mine 2 " higher than standard umi

Yeah raise it on up. I've got spacers on my stock steering to bring the bars up about 3"
