I needed a new steering cable after breaking mine (my own fault). I have tried aftermarket and my first one lasted 2 months, the warranty replacement is the one I just broke (4 months on it). Even though my own mis-adjustrment caused the problem with this cable, I still feel an OEM probably would have held up.
Anyway I decided I was going back to the OEM route (especially after pricing the fancy Blowsion cable). I was jtold by a friend to order OEM part # GM6-61481-10-00, that it was beefier. This is from a 2006-2007 RN.
Sure as poop it is. The top pic is the GM6-61481-10-00 (06-07) and the bottom is GM6-61481-00-00 (96-05)

I did not have my calipers at home to give you specs, but it is definitely beefier. We'll see how long it holds up.

The bonus is, depending upon where you purchase, it is $5-15 cheaper than the old part #.

cool, i am in the market for a new steer cable. my last oem one lasted me 4-5 years but i fed it up last week. my fault. I want beefy cable because of how far my nozzle sticks out from my hull. The ATP steer nozzle came with a tube to slipover the cable as some sort of reinforcer. i have no problems down by the pump end as of yet.

even if the cable is thicker, the threaded part is gonna be the weak link. thats where mine broke anyways.

That was the main selling point of the Skat Trak heavy duty cable for me, but it's spendy.

I have the Blowsion heavy duty cable. Its much beefier everywhere and the threaded part... but uses standard thread which makes it a PIA if you have a trim system with metric spacers and ball joints.

Why does it matter what thread the steering cable is when it comes to the trim system? :dunno:
