Is there anyway to know if you've purchased a boat with the static timing advanced without pulling the flywheel?

Pull the flywheel cover...mark TDC on flywheel and cases. Install a bendix holder (cut up flywheel cover) so you can start the ski while still being able to see the flywheel.
Connect a timing light.
Start the ski.
Check timing. Of course, you'll need a degree wheel, too.

You've probably figured out by now that it'll be far less of a pain in the ass to just invest the 3 minutes it takes to pull the flywheel.
