starter question and honda part #'s to match yamaha starters

I was always under the assumption that kawi starters and yamaha were the same with the exeption of the rear cap.
I just tried to switch the cap and install only to find out the kawi starter is about a 1/4" longer.

So I dug out another starter that I believe was an old kawi as well and the stator housing appears to be the same length as my yamaha one
So I am not sure why I have one starter that is 1/4" longer.Maybe it was one I got off ebay as a spare ,i thought polaris and tigershark were the same accept for the back cover

Years ago a friend at a polaris dealer told me about honda starter parts being the same as kawi and polaris'so i picked up a brush plate and set of positive brushes. I just recently needed to replace the pos brushes in my blaster starter and used the honda replacement part .perfect fit
