Starter engages when i hook up the battery?

I've been on the lake 4 or 5 times this summer with no problems. All of the sudden I was sitting on the couch and heard my ski in the garage trying to start itself. I ran out and hit the stop button... Nothing. Hurried up and d/c the battery. As long as the battery is connected the starter is spinning. Lanyard / zip tie off and it still spins. Took apart the Ebox and when the battery is connected it looks like smoke is coming from somewhere, but i cant pin point it. So am I looking at a start/stop switch problem or is it the starter solenoid? I do have an MSD enhancer, but I have had the same set up for 3 years and this is the first time i've had any problems. Any advice?

Disconnect your black and white Ebox to start switch connectors, and connect the battery to see if it cranks by itself. If it does, then go ahead and replace the solenoid. When they go bad, they go haywire. As for the smoke, you could either have a broken battery wire, or the connection of the battery wire to that starter is bad. If you have a broken wire, go to autozone and get a replacement. If its just buildup of salt and other :):):):) on the metal connectors, take a wire brush to both the starter contact spot, and to the wire.
