Are you saying the housing is incorrect, or your shaft is incorrect?

Look on ebay. I just picked up an AM housing for my '90 SN from Dennis Kirk for something like $10...

I had NAPA press the shaft out, then install a new bearing (Federal Mogul PN 205FF or equivalent). I had to get new seals from Yamaha as I couldn't find any other source. Your seals will end up costing about 2x as much as your bearing by the way...:banghead:

I have a spare pre '93 housing that looks rough, but is still useable. It was given to me, so I'll offer it to you if you're interested. I was going to use it, but found the pretty one on ebay...

... and the shaft PN's are different. I agree, not the same, but you can interchange them (of course I haven't measured the lengths, but that's all adjustable (to a point) based on how far you press the shaft in).

midmount

i didn't know the shaft would work as my shaft is in good shape.i guess i only need the housing with bearings and seals then.is this correct?i bought this assembly from waterdawgs and i guess he sent me the wrong one.

I forgot!
you can swap both shafts as long as you have the matching coupler for the shaft. as steve said there are two thread sizes, the older ones are smaller threads. I found this out after i bought a new larger style midshaft.

so if i get this right,i can just press the shaft out and get the small bearing housing and put my shaft in it that way i can keep my couplers as well?.

okay lets see if i can make it clear, i have a 95 SN that uses the larger 96+midshaft bearing housing, My midshaft was showing some signs of play on the drive shaft so i ordered a new 96+ shaft, before it arrived i remembered i had the older smaller midshaft housing, shaft, and coupler off of a 93 SN, i pressed out the shaft with the matching coupler and pressed it into the newer 96+ midshaft housing. basically the two shafts are the same length, diameter but have two different sized threads. so as long as you have the matching coupler to thread onto the shaft, your golden. if you have an older then 95 SN you have to use the older smaller midshaft housing. Either shaft will fit with it's matching coupler in your older style housing. if you have a 95SN or 96+ RN you use the bigger housing and either shaft with matching coupler. i hope that cleared something up???? lol

thanks d-rock.crystal clear now.the thing is waterdawgs sold me this complete engine, midmount and pump with shaft that seem to come from different boats, this being my first yami, all i knew was i needed a small mount for this old boat i'm trying to build.didn't know anything about that stuff.i told him what year boat i had but some of the things he sent don't fit.

then you probably need the midshaft housing only off of a older SN to get it too bolt onto your hull, i can take a picture of an old one i got if you want so you can see if how it is different from the one jeff sent ya.
