Sorry off to a bad start

I want to apologize for being a newbie yet starting off on the wrong foot and hopefully I didnt blow my opportunity to actually learn from you all, which is really why i joined at the advice of some buddies.

Anyway, I am interested in becoming a better rider and want to improve my skills. I will use the search feature but hopefully you don't mind me asking general questions about how to up my game, or point me to useful threads.

I just got a Kawa 440 and would love to get better, to include being able to do a backflip. I have always wanted to try that after the one day in the san diego area i saw somebody do one. i dont know if the guy who did a flip had a ski with more power or what, but i am guessing it doesnt matter too much as its mostly skill, right?

thanks in advance for your help

Youll need a different hull and motor for sure. Could do a backy in the surf with a superjet roundnose for about 3-4k. Or at the lake with an aftermarket hull for 10k+.

Skill is definitely needed, I skipped the superjet and went straight to a aftermarket hull thinking "well enough power will compensate skill". Well i don't have enough power, skill, or even the balls to really commit.

440/550 is a great way to start and a way to save up money for either a superjet or better ski. This site will help you out, don't think you need to apologize for being a newbie because we all start there. Good luck and welcome to the forum and this sport

thanks so much!

i will definitely need to do more research and will definitely followup on your suggestions

as for apologies, it was intended to those who i may have offended in a different thread as I guess you can say I was naive to the fact there is a pecking order I need to be more aware of.

thanks again

Some people here just want to be keyboard bullies after a bad day at work. Most can look over and see your a newbie and can send you the right direction without being a di*k. As for the comment I dont know what it is but don't worry about it and leave it in the past and just talk about jet skis not drama. Get a few more posts (10) up and you can message people and ask off the forum if thats more comfortable

There is no pecking order. Old members do not get free rides when it comes to how the treat new members. Yes. There are groups of friends who will banter with each other and may seem as they are attacking each other. You figure out these groups and realize that it is harmless fun. The think to remember here is respect. This applies to everyone. Think about what you are going to say before you click a reply.

By the time you learn to backflip you're probably gonna have broken a bunch of skis. SO dont worry about what ski you're currently riding and just have fun.

On another note Id like to see a "pro" flip a 440/550 as i think it would be pretty cool. A failed flip attempt by you or me might not be so cool though cause that thing would probably break in half.

There are some videos of Gomez flipping his 550 years ago. Believe he broke it in half.

Everyone will tell you to use the search feature, but in reality, it really sucks.

So here's a tip. Use google and include X-h2o.com in the google search. For example... "X-h2o.com 550 flip". you can actually type this directly into the address bar on google chrome, and it will recognize it as a search since you have more than just an address in there. Also remember you can narrow the search with quotes, + symbols, and etc, all the normal google search choices.

I'm not sure what powers our search engine, but I have found using google to be much easier.

wow thanks! i am shocked I am not getting beat up more for what i assumed to be a stupid question, especially from Aquaholic who I know i probably annoyed (understatement i am sure).

While i dont have a matching outfit like him i am sure others at the lake he frequents dont either so i wouldnt feel too lame (until i rode at least). Aquaholic, or anybody who knows him...where do you ride? It would be cool to actually come watch in person if thats ok.

Sorry, MikeSee...we have enough KOOKS (like RubberToe) as it is, at our lake...go backflip your 440 somewhere else.

They actually have signs posted to keep the riffraff out.

Mark Gomez flips 550's.... big enough wave and big enough huevos, you too can be backflipping... or you can break out your wallet and flip on flat water. ;)

Dont read into everything that is being said the way you think it may be being said. sometimes what is being said is totally different than what is be said. That said, not everything comes across the same as what is being said.

That was a really mean spirited and unprovoked statement .
thanks rubbertoe, i appreciate that. for what it's worth, i wont let aquaholic's mean-spirited attacks get to me. not sure how old he i am guessing pretty young so i wont hold it against him.

i also know on other forums for other sports, there are always some people that crave attention but lots of those same people bring a lot to the table for me to learn from so i dont care. whether its hucking cows on land or flips on lakes, its all stuff i can learn from so thanks to all.
