I wonder what type of power this thing has. Just something I thought was interesting; kind of like snowboarding on water.

I agree, way overpriced, but they look like a ton of fun. I read about those about 8 years ago. They have a lot of cool technology in them.

I saw something like these back when I was a young pup, back in the late 80s...

It was more of just a surfboard with this box on the back end of it that held the motor and pump... They were always broke though it seemed....

Those were quite a bit different. This surf board was developed in the late 1990's.
