Solid top NGK B7HS - finally!

So, I've been looking for a solid top B7HS plug for years. My older SJ came with B7HS plugs with the removable threaded on nut on the top. They only cause reliability failures.
The B7HS is only available in the 5110 with the removable nut. The BR8HS 6715 is a solid top.

Well, I pulled up the boots on my new 2016... WOW... it has solid top B7HS plugs! Been waiting years to see this!!

Can these be bought anywhere other than from the dealer? $1.43 from Rockauto and $2.95 from Yamaha.

Pics to prove it:

They're made specifically for Yamaha. That's per both Yamaha and NGK. I tried sourcing them as well.

On a side note, normal solid top caps are uncoated steel. These are nickel plated. They're fancy for saltwater applications.

Yes, I also noticed the B7HS solid top is nickel plated, but the standards from NGK are steel.

I also spoke with NGK and they said they are only available through Yamaha. NGK also advised to NOT run the BR8HS in place, being a colder plug. May have just been liability coverage on his part.

$2.95 from Yamaha is not the end of the world, I've seen worse. I'll pick some up to have in stock.

I had to switch to BR8HS-Solid in mine since the 7s ran a bit hot. They're fine for rec skis but tend to run hot running buoys all day.

Keep in mind that the '96 SJ originally shipped with B8HS before the EPA standards kicked in. Yamaha then went hotter on the plug to try and burn off more carbon and help meet emissions. There's no harm in running 8s or 9s if needed, especially if you install a pipe where the charge is held in better and cylinder temps go up.
