Solas I Series impeller question

Has anyone ever run a Solas I series impeller on their SJ that has been modded by Impros? I asked the guys at Impros if they could recommend any service to an I series impeller that would be decent for a freeride/freestyle type setup. They recommended having it repitched to 13/16 and then giving it a 3mm cutback. Has anyone ever run anything similar to this? I'm trying to save a little money by using what I have, rather than buying a new Swirl or Concord impeller.

I obviously want some more bottom end grunt, but don't want to sacrifice any top speed over a stock setup. My boat is a '95 SJ with the 61x and the stock aluminum impeller for now, but have a factory pipe, aftermarket head running pump gas, and a couple stainless impellers to choose from that will be bolted on in a couple weeks.

My other option is to go with a Skat 9/17 that just came on a second boat I picked up.

Any words of advise?

Send it to IMPROS, the I series prop is a good prop.
with custom prop tuning, there are always chances of loosing something, it is a give and take. I had a J pitched to that of an I and it ran good, good overall power.

So you had it repitched to 14.5/18 (I) from the J which is 14.7/18.5?

What mods were you running with that impeller? I was concerned that the stock I series pitch would be too steep, but if you had okay luck with it, maybe I'll just try it the way it is. I guess it depends what your setup was like on your boat.

According to the Skat Trak website the stock impeller pitch for the 94-95 boats was 13/16. Maybe the 'I' impeller would be a decent upgrade with it repitched to the same as the stock aluminum one.

I think the "I" is a great prop - with Impros mods you can go either direction for your taste, speed or freestyle flavor...

Btw, I still have a brand new in box I for sale, comes with rubber and aluminum nose cones, and the prop tool too - $175 + shippping

So it sounds like the 'I' series impeller is a good all around impeller, however it might be a little more for top end speed than I want.

As much as I like having a standup that will go around 50mph, I think I'll have mine pitched down a little to get me some more bottom end snap. I just don't know how low to go. I'd like to have a top speed around 45-47, and I definitely don't wanting to be approaching the stock rev limiter with a limited setup on a regular basis.

Thanks for the replies guys. If anyone else has any input, please let me know.

I have an impros I prop that has been cut back 3mm and repitched to a 13/17.. It is a great impeller..... I have a full limited SJ with a Speedwerx Dry pipe and it runs great... Good low end and still has seen 54-55 on GPS.........

Oh shoot, if you're running that fast on a limited setup, then I'd quite likely get mine pitched to 13/16. I realize I likely wouldn't hit anything close to that with the B-Pipe, but heck, that's still way more top end than I was hoping for.

The dry pipe needs to spin a ton of Rpm's to make good power so thats why I repitched it to a 13/17.... I would go with the 13/16 if thats what Impros recommended. It will be night and day better than the stock aluminum piece of junk....... I would also recommend getting an MSD Enhancer.. There was a used one on here for cheap not too long ago....
