I went to Think Signs in Cordova this morning to get my registration decals for the new SuperJet and sat down with the guy for about five minutes ironing out the specifics of what I wanted.

I wanted a red background with a shaded center letter that blends from dark blue at the top to white at the bottom. I didn't want them to be the three inches but rather two and a half as I like that size better and I didn't think anyone would notice the difference.

The very nice owner told me he couldn't do the shading and the center had to be solid so we came up with red background with white letters/numbers.

We finished the blocking and everything and then he looked at me and said "I think we can get you what you want for twenty-five dollars apiece so with tax that comes to $54.63.

ummmmmm . . . no.

I thanked him for his time and apologized for my misunderstanding that it would be less expensive and for essentially wasting his time. I drove back home and ordered the same set from Predator Graphix in Louisville, KY off eBay for fifteen bucks plus six for shipping.

$54.63 versus $20.95 is not close. If there was a less significant disparity, I would go local but not as almost double the cost.

You should have just contacted Abe from northgraphics.com - he kicks azz with that stuff and for a great price.

Anyway, completely unrelated to PWC but I recently had a similar experience. I bought a condo in a nearby town where I grew up. Its about 45 min from where I work. I like to spend money in my town whenever possible, so I took my dry cleaning to a local shop. I went to pick it up the other night - $74!!!!!!

Granted, I had a LOT of stuff to be cleaned and two pants to be shortened (needed to get my cold-weather dress clothes ready for work) but the place by work would have done it all for $51 (yes, I calculated it when I got home).

Their rates are outrageous. I like to support the local guys but not at 50% higher cost!

They don't seem to mind at all here at Lanier...as long as you have numbers they can see. In 12 years of riding, with 7 different skis, we have never been pulled over.
Knock on wood, GA requires 3in letters in block font only. The GA DNR lady down here informed me of this when I had an 'old english' style font.

same here...just don't give then any other reason to bitch & they don't care as long as you're registered

...and therein lies the problem. They watch standups pretty darn closely and the minute we jump a boat wake they get all wadded up. From there it's the whole routine with the "inspection" of your craft to determine if you are legal.

we are fortunate & just don't see them around here that much, especially on the river. just waiting for that luck to change though:rolleyes:

In Fla the water cops would give you a ticket for that lettering.:frown:

I was thinking the same thing. Our cops know us so well though that the only reason they stop is to chit-chat. Our watercops rock. They only hassle couchers

I dig 'em though princess :cheer:

Oh geeze I am way off topic. Go Local!:cheer:

I don't know about anyone else here, but I am WAY more careful out there in the water on my standup than on the couch. A lot of that has to do with watching for the couches so they don't run me over :banghead: Always watching my back. Point is, they won't get me for any "careless and imprudent" pwc riding on the stand-up, ever. Unless the wave jumping is a problem in their minds...

Back on topic now - in MO those letters would probably be grounds to get pulled over and warned at the least. I got that treatment once (they don't like shading black to red on a red machine ha ha).
