Slow turn over

I rebuild my superjet engine, bottom end and top. Ran well but ended up grinding away starter teeth because of worn bendix bushings. I replaced them and now it turns over very slowly. It will start if you stay on it but it is very slow. It only turns over slow if the spark plug boots are on. When they boot is off it turns over nice and smooth and fast. I was thinking timing was causing the issue so I took apart the engine to find the stator was turned way to far. I turned it back to stock, centered, but still the same issue. Any other ideas? The stator isn't OEM and does not have a dot in the center to line up so I did the best I could to center it. Thanks

They are normally not centered... Here are pics I had.... I did did a ski for a guy once and his aftermarket eBay stator was putting his timing 60 degrees off..
Your flywheel key hasn't sheared ?
