Super Jet ski not sucking gas??

just put the ski back together and it isnt sucking gas to the white fuel filter mounted on the side of the hull. tried both on and res settngs. blew out both lines before installing. pulse line is hooked to nipple that said pulse.

help me realize my most likely dumb mistake...

thanks

Did you have the carbs apart?

Fuel routing: From what you are saying, it sounds like you still have the original reserve switch.
Make sure that the "on" line is going from the fuel pickup to the correct nipple on the switch. Make sure that the "reserve" line is going from the other pickup directly to the switch.
Make sure that the "out" nipple on the switch is going to the filter and then to the bottom nipple on the carb.
The top nipple on the carb should feed directly back to the tank.

thanks for the response matt

all that is correct. this is a ski that i just bought that was in pieces. i did have the carb apart and had to put in a new diaphram cause the old one had pinholes in it. all other parts looked ok. (kind of crusty but not too bad) the plastic tab behind the carb body isnt seating right but dont think that would affect suckage.

so this is not a ski/carb that i have seen work right. compression seemed ok. it will run off gas poured in the carb.

First I would verify that you are getting pulse from the pulse line. Just unplug it from the carb, crank and verify there are pulses of air coming out.
Next, blow into the tank check valve until you see gas in the fuel filter. (Just to make sure the fuel lines are clear.
Next I would check the fuel pump (what's under the nipples on the carb). Make sure the clear plastic diaphragm is there and undamaged.

it was missing the check valve. i just have the vent line with plastic bubble hooked directly to the gas tank. ???

i may have to recheck the clear diaphram. what about the little round ones held in by the rubber grommet. they looked suspicious in that there might have been a little corrosion around the metal they sealed against.

Those also need to be able to seal well. There is also a big fitted O-ring in the pump body that needs to be in good shape.
Really, anything looking suspicious must be replaced.

The missing check valve will not keep the ski from running/starting.

Try this - pull the return line of the carb and blow into it till fuel comes out of the return nipple - now everything has fuel and should work if properly set up - im guessing u really need to clean out the carbs completely a small leak or grime will make them run like crap

it wasn't the check valves themselves as much as the body of the carb they seal against.

i have been nursing it along dribbling gas into the carb while it is idling and it has started to fill the fuel filter but still not running on it's own. the motor had some moisture that is impeding continous running but we are making some progress!
