ski goes into neutral?

when taking off from a dead stop the ski will all of a sudden rev up and feels like it goes into neutral. Now when i turn the ski left or right and lean its fine and takes right off. Does anyone know what would cause this? My uncle says its bad cavitation. We looked at the pump to make sure there is nothing that got stuck in it and there is nothing. thanks

Cavitation/air sucking into the pump. You need to pull the rideplate/pump to look at the pump seal - they get old/dry and can let air in the pump intake from the pump cavity area. If you lean it over, you may be covering the problem area with water which will eliminate the problem until it sucks air again.

So who sells the pump seal? part number if anyone has it. i forgot to mention that it only does it when i stop then trying to get up on plane again once it like hooks up its fine, runs great. Would the seal still cause that?

Yamaha sells the pump seal, any dealer can look up the part number based on the model and year. Before you buy anything identify the problem. It could be a bent prop blade, bad pump seal, an obstruction in the intake area, or intermediate shaft housing sucking air into the intake area. These are some of the reasons for cavitation, but other things can cause it also. What prop are you running? If it is stock, ditch it and get a stainless solas or skat trak while you are at it. Good luck

Ok, so were is the pump seal located and what does it look like? What should it look like if it needs to be replaced? Also i will be getting a new prop any suggestions on prop pitch?
