701 starts but idles real rough like it's only running on one cylinder. When rev'd, it seems to run on both and smooths out. Just rebuild carb using OEM kit. Cut back plug wires. Tried different switch. Checked spark. Compression good. Any other suggestions? Leaving for LSFR on Thursday.

Take an old set of plugs and open the gap about 1/8". Lay them on top of the head and see if they both spark while cranking. It takes more energy for the spark to jump under compression. At idle the stator might not produce enough to fire through fractured coil wires. If you have a spare cdi, you might try that too. You could run the engine with the e-box open for testing out of the water.

I'll try that tonight.

If I leave the old plugs in but unconnected and the new plugs connected on top, will that give me enough load to test.

After that session until 1:30 this morning, driving home and then waking up at 6:15 was no picnic. If you're still in your shop, could you throw a charger on my ski please.

Well, last night I put the old plugs in while the new plugs were in the boots to see if they sparked while under more of a load, and they did. Connected another ground cable, nothing. Opened up ebox and replaced CDI, nothing. The starter relay had a crappy connector and was had some corrosion, so we replaced the connector and cleaned it up a little. Did not test the coil or stator.

Decided to hold off on anything else, since it was 1:30 am, and I'm just going to take it to LSFR as is.

Big thanks to Smoofer for his assistance. He sacrificed time getting his ski ready to help me.

did you try new plug boots? I lost sleep over a similar situation for about 7 months. Rplaced all electrics and re wired my coil.and it still happened. Ended up being a bad kawi twist on plug boot.... I spent many hours on the beach kickin my ski ove that...

It has MSD boots that I pulled off, trimmed the wires back and reconnected, so I feel the boots aren't the issue.

I guess the coil will be the next try. I'll see if I can get someone to bring one to LSFR and change it out there. If that's not it, then I'll check the stator. After that, I'll just insure it and burn it, lol.
