sj question?

just got my new superjet and I'm having a small problem with it. sometimes when I go to start it all I hear is a clicking sound. after a couple more tries it fires right up.

what is causing this? I was thinking that the bendix isn't engaging the flywheel. does that sound right? if so do I need a new bendix or can I repair this one.

thanks

could be a loose battery wire. could be a loose ground on the engine or positive on the starter. could be that your starter is tired.

i would bet on a loose wire.

the clicking sound is your starter relay. it means its working. you cant hear it when the starter does choose to work because the start is louder.

Like Charlie said, check your wires - they have to be cranked down good and tight. Also, does the battery have a good charge on it? Could be as simple as a flat battery. Sounds like you have enough juice to click the solenoid but not enough to turn the starter.

when it does crank after about 3-4 clicks it fires right up. i know what a low battery sounds like. its got a new odyssey that I know has a full charge on it.

make sure all connections are clean and tight. Last weekend on the water my battery came outta the tray and the connections got all loosened up. Scared me to death when all I heard when i pressed the start button was bzzzzzz..

never try to handtighten battery screws while kneeling in water....:banghead:

I'm in Clearwater, If your around...Good chance that you have a bad relay. I have new and used ones should that be your problem. P.S. go to a auto parts store and buy a new ground cable and throw it on and see if you have a bad one (just pull a headbolt to hook up for now)...Superjets like to eat up ground cables! The starter solenoid can click but the contacts inside may be so crapped up they aren't making a good connection.

Yeah, and watch out where you take your boat to. They might try and charge you $200 for that ground cable. Which might not be the problem. :bs2: :bs2:

I think I might just replace all the battery cables on the ski. I work at West Marine as a summer job and I get that stuff really cheap.

Any marine grade cable should work fine right?

I don't know if I should laugh or be concerned because of the people who have posted in here.

Maybe PM's are the way to handle it.
