I hooked up my new B pipe after a few weekends gone and my sj rips now.

However, I get about a half hour or 45 minutes into a ride and it seems to misfire, and the pisser water is REALLY hot, hotter than normal. I run single cooling. GainerA from the board came out with his SJ and his cooling is the same, he has no problem, and its not as hot as my cooling.

I have a stock 701 with a B pipe, single cooling. Cooling is routed like this : into one side of the manifold, 2 out of head to bottom of head pipe, out of head pipe to stinger, T'd off to pisser, most direct route to pisser. I plugged the extra line in my head and ran just the stock outlet to the bottom of the head pipe, and it didnt change anything. Im thinking my water is wrong.

My buddy whos been racing for 15 years has a mild SS sj, with a B pipe. His cooling goes IN from the head to the top of the head pipe. and comes OUT the bottom to the pisser. Im sure it can be run either way, depending on which part of your engine you want coooled first. Im thinking of trying it this way.

I changed plus 2 times, thinking that I fouled my plugs by ingesting water, but after riding and NOT doing any tricks or anything to suck up some water, i relaized its not the issue. If I let it sit and cool down, the ski runs fine, until it seems to get too hot. I also have no heat sensor as many people dont, so I take it easy when it acts up so I dont cook it.

My head pipe screws are top, 1 turn, bottom and middle closed

anyone?

The routing you described sounds right to me. Are you running the water out of the back of the head? I have seen some route the water coming off the head to the top of the headpipe and the bottom of the headpipe going out to the pisser with the T for the stinger. I would think that running the water from the pump into the head would cause improper cooling. I think the idea is to put the cool water from the pump into the exh. manifold because it is the hottest part and then it routes up through the cyl. and head then out the boat. Maybe the overheat sensor is kicking in. Did you rejet the carbs? Overheat could be caused by a lean condition or mild deto.

like i said I dont have a heat sensor. The other cooling method you describd is the one my friend runs on his SS sj. running cooling into the head works fine if that what you choose. i just cant figure it out.

wellllll 2 weeks ago in havasu i had 3 spark plug wires crack about a inch from the boot on one and the other two broke in the plug boot.. it/they ran great for 15 minutes or so then start missing.. plugs looked great.. i had no boots with me and broke the one msd i did have re crimping it.. i cut the wires back.. unscrewed the lil spark plug cap and put on a lil washer, twised the plug wire around it then tightined the plug cap on it.. i was in fresh water and it got me threw the weekend.. I would still run the inlet water line from the pump to the manifold..after that anything goes as long as you bypass before the stinger

what Keefer says is true, if you are slightly lean you could overheat seen it done. So did you re-jet w/ addition of B-pipe? After reading all above that sounds like your most obvious starting point. I would check compression as well as it could be a mush worse problem, like something coming apart, we see this happen same way huh Keefer?
