should I add some hood reinforcement?

the side of the hood on my JS550 flexes and gets pushed in off the seal when I land on my side ( i know...dont land on my side, right).

I'm thinking of glassing in an aluminum strut to stiffen the sides. any reason NOT to do this?

I almost sank my ski twice last weekend cuz of this. I need to fix this issue some how.

a superjet would cure that problem.

:haha:

actually, if youre into glassing on the 550 hood, you can make a new liner that will keep water out as well as strengthen the hood.

yes, yes...SJ, check!

ANY way...

My liner is pretty good. I'm just trying to negate the flex in this big flat hood. No major work and I'm not dumping tons of cash into this pile either. I have nothing in it. I'm gonna keep it that way.

My thought was the strut would make it super stiff solving my problem. and not adding tons of weight or requiring MANY layers of glass and epoxy resin.

BTW... welcome back SFL :headbang:

hey thanks!

if you have the stock liner in that hood, its poo for freestyle. you can do the same mod that we do to the squarenose hoods that isnt costly, and it would brace the 'sides' of the hood to keep the from flexing. then you can block off all the holes on the outside of the hood and cut 2 breathers in the back near the bottom to keep water out of your bilge. i believe there are some tech articles about how to do the mod on this or the other site.

or you could just beef up the sides, but thats only killing one bird with your stone.

I really woudnt know if it's stock. as best I've been able to figure out on my own this think is a weird mix of stock and aftermarket. intake appears stock, but nozzle does not. it's piped w/ side exhaust, but motor and carb seem stock as far as I can tell. I has internal fuel fill, and braces, and other A/M goodies. but some of the parts you would THINK whould have been changed, werent. I know the liner has been modded. but I dont know to what extent.

I'll have to try to find the article on the liner.
