Sealants for final engine assembly

I'm bolting everything onto a shortblock tonight, and I need to know what to use as a sealant on the gaskets. I have some Yamabond4 lying around, will this do the trick?

I am not sure what Yamabond is, but I think I remember reading its the same as ThreeBond 1211. I think most people would recommend ThreeBond 1211 for your case halves. Everyone feels different about coating their gaskets. Some like to install dry, others prefer a thin coat of sealant on each side.

Yamabond is designed for sealing the case halves together. Most people don't put anything special on the gaskets themselves. I prefer to use permatec spray on the gaskets themselves as it helps pick up slight imperfections but that's just my preference.

edit: Yamabond, hondabond, threebond...is all basically the same stuff. Kinda like Texaco, shell, Exxon...it's all basically the same fuel. Maybe slight differences but nothing serious.

i use 1211 or locktite flange sealent on the cases - gaskets go on dry except for the exh. manifold but this is just my way

gaskets go on dry.

Use some teflon pipe dope on bolts to keep water out. Make sure to seal under the head of the bolt.
