SATA Drive - VICTORY!

Team Cheeseburger
Well, I came home from the cabin last weekend, and had monday off.
First thing Monday morning I start up my PC, and it doesn't boot... locks at the windows loading screen. So I reboot and then it starts saying "NTLDR" is missing...... damn!

So I try to fixboot with no luck... too scared to try fixmbr.
So I rebuild the PC with a spare IDE hard drive.

But what really sucks is I have 15 gb of pictures all the way back from when I was 14 on this SATA hard drive that just "crashed". Still when I plug the Hard drive in it says it is blank. I mess with it all day monday trying to get my pictures back. No luck.

So on Tuesday I speak with some friends at work and they tell me to try this HDD regenerator tool. I get the CD go home and run it on the SATA drive. It runs overnight and finishes but still when I try to access the drive, it says there is no data on it... not even a file system.

So on Wednesday I speak with a friend I used to work with, tell him about all the crap I just lost on my SATA drive. He speaks with another tech guy who says he's had good luck sticking bad hard drives in the freezer... So I figured what the hell, the data is already "lost" anyways.

Thursday I stick the hard drive in the Freezer and head to work. When I get home Thursday night, I grab the hard drive from the freezer and plug it into my PC. (using USB to SATA cable and power supply) The drive makes tons of noises I've never heard before and I'm thinking it's really messed it up this time. I play with the frosty frozen hard drive for 30min trying to get my PC to recogonize it was hooked up. Unplugging and re-plugging the usb cable and power switch.

Finally the drive pops up in my computer and disk management.
I try to access my documents folder under my username, no luck access denied.
But I can go under my GF's username and get to her my documents folder no problem.
So I copy her stuff over to my IDE drive, but still I cannot access my stuff, it says the folders are empty as well.

So I turn off simple file sharing and get the "security" tab under the "properties" of my 'my documents' folder. I go to the "owner" tab and take ownership of this folder... Then a MIRACLE happens, I can access my 'my documents' folder! :arms:

I copy over 99% of all pics and other "Lost" data.
I didn't think it was important data until I lost it, then I was pissed / depressed for a few days, But I ended up only losing maybe 10 pics that were corrupted, and got everything else back.
Happy Friday for me!

The moral of the story.... BACK UP YOUR DATA!!
AND "If at first you don't succeed, TRY TRY AGAIN!"
