sanding a ski?

ok this is a retarded question but im going to ask it anyways.....

when sanding down a ski, do you sand all the way to the fiber class or just untill the top coat of paint is off? just trying to get one of my old skis a paint job so i can get it out of here......

thanks jeff

I dont actually agree with Meatball on the sanding.

You are going to have a hard time sanding off the gelcoat. That is not going to get you anywhere in the long run. You are just trying to give the paint enough tooth to grip to the old paint or gelcoat.

Word of warning- dont get too crazy with the grit. Or you ill have a tough time hiding it. Even with a high-build primer. Probably dont want to go any courser than 200.
