Running no Intake grate?

I am just curious to hear from those that have run no intake grates and what are the gains or downfalls of the setup. This is the intake from my wdk x jet i am working on. Somone has put some stainless slats in there that basically fell right out. I was going to glass something similar in there, basically to keep large debris out of the prop was my main thinking and not really water flow. I will be running a oem 155 pump and do alot of freeriding

I run no grate. Makes your ski alot looser as in it slides around alot easier.

I am probably going to run no grate then and make a wedge for the bottom of the pump shoe

I run most of my skis without a grate, one of them being an X jet with the larger pump tunnel like yours. Works well for me.
