RN handle pole question

as im re-turffing my ski i decide to turf my chin pad, as i try to take the fist screw off i spun the head right off the nut, then i ripped off the foam, and tryed to spin it from the back side...same thing happened, So my idea is to drill it out, now for the question, can i drill the rivets out from the top of the handle pole so i can use a drill press, or do i have to take the whole pole off?

Don't unrivet the cast from the pole. put up a picture.
