Replacement CDI Identification

I was having issues with my 94 SN 701 and based on some good advice found here and testing, found the CDI was bad. I bought this Titan 757 one which seems to work, but it doesn’t seem to have a rev limiter like my old one. I can’t hit a rev limiter on the trailer or in the water. I also feel like the low speed screw needs adjustment after not being touched for close to a decade. The only mod to the ski is a bpipe and solas YB-CD 13/17.

My old CDI is an Arieltek (pic attached) that came with my ski and is atleast 12 years old. The wiring was also slightly different on this new CDI with the brown/white wire being pure brown and the black wire with a ground spliced in is now two separate black wires. I asked Bayarea power sports which CDI I needed as mine was not listed for either CDI they sold and they recommended this one

Does anyone have info on this Arieltek CDI and/or experience with the Titan757 CDI I bought? The only mod to the ski is a bpipe and solas YB-CD 13/17. The feel of the ski is different but would probably be very nuanced to someone else that doesn’t have hundreds of hours on this setup. Thanks!

I have experience with the Arielteks, basically cheap junk made in Brasil , no experience with the Titans but most likely if you check where it came from most likely it's Chinese.

Here is the thing with electrical components, they are only as good as their worst component , when that fails it no longer works , when all of the components are cheap Chinese components the service life on the CDI box takes a nose dive.

I have had Arielteks be bad right out of the box , I have seen many with intermittent issues and I have seen one on a Seadoo start the ski completely on it's own , no lanyard installed, just started up out of the blue, luckily I was right there when it happened and cut it off.

Best advice I can give you is stop fooling around with these cheap CDI's if you want a decent and reliable ski , that no rev limit feature could cost you an engine if you don't get your finger off the throttle fast enough when the pump comes out of the water and hooks back up again revved to the moon .

I've got a suspicion a lot of aftermarket CDIs are just rebranded AriekTek. I was looking at one place, I forgot where, but they were selling unbranded arieltek at a higher price but they included a 1 year warranty

I have already gone through one in my 90 SJ. The potting came off of the plastic shell and a little water got in the ebox and it rusted and shorted out.

If it has a blue case you can pretty much bet it was made by Arieltek.

Normally I just do OEM for everything, but the Arieltek that came with the ski lasted well over a decade of hard use so I was a little less worried about aftermarket. I also read CDIs don’t last forever making used ones less appealing.

I have been reading about modifying SJ CDIs to raise or disable the rev limiter. If this is a commin mod and the only quirk of this CDI, I’m not sure how bad it is to keep running this? Initially I was really disturbed when I didn’t hear it bounce during cavitation.

All this being said, I feel like to have true piece of mind maybe I need to purch up from @JetManiac and return this one?

If you Concord 13/17 is not modified you won’t hit the rev limit of a stock 61x cdi. Changing the limit on the stock box is fairly easy provided you are good with your hands. There should be shops around that remember how to do the job.

I had a couple revs in choppy water and in the air that made me cringe. It felt like it was getting up there and the sellers response to my inquiry on this was only “many aftermarket cdi will not have rev limiters.”. That would have been good to put in the listing IMO. I am planning to return it and go used OEM.
