I've pulled the motor out of my jet to give my ski a respray, looking at at the underside where its scuffed and scraped from years of beach landing. What are your guys using to fill and prep this section? Expoxy resin and thickeners? or is there something else out there that you would recommend.

Don't mind epoxy but is a real s**t to sand smooth and im a bit OCD with my prep lol

Mix microbaloons in your epoxy and it'll be easier to sand than cabisol.

I heard some guys use Marine JB Weld to fill holls/dents. Its like playdough you can use to fill little nicks, then sand and paint.

I know some traditional auto bondo stuff isent ideal for water because it swells, etc when fully wet

Paint over what's there... that's what I did on both mine... No matter what you use it'll just crack out after more abuse.. if it's that big a deal epoxy and balloons would be best but suck to sand.. poly resin and balloons would be my next choice... but for what you'll gain, it isn't worth the time.. do as you wish, that's just my 2 cents...

I am redoing the entire bottom of a hull right now. Tons of sanding. I am using epoxy resin mixed with west system 410 filler. It comes out to a bondo consistency, feathers out like it, but is a little harder to sand. Using a small sanding block, 320 sand paper, little patience and plenty of elbow grease. Would highly recommend a orbital sander if you have access to a good air compressor.

Epoxy with microspheres is very easy to sand. Much easier than bondo. Maybe you are not putting in enough microspheres?

With that said, it the bottom of the hull. I would use cab-o-sil because it is denser and a SOB to sand. It will be harder and will resist the gouging better than something easier to sand. Something easy to sand wont hold up will against being on the sandy beach.

Good point right there... that's also why I would just paint it...

West systems 410 works awesome, used that when I fixed a bunch of dings on my blaster, sands decent and has held up to two years of abuse with zero issue.
