Removing kart tank pan?

Hi, I bought a bob gen 2 with a kart tank pan and want to run a superjet gas tank. What is best method for removing pan? It's a fiberglass layup hull. Previous owner was using superjet tank, but just had strapped on top of pan. I Want tank to be sucure and not move around. Thanks

Like Qunic said, and if they used plexus or structural fiberglass adhesive I'd just use a die grinder or such with a diamond cut off wheel or abrasive wheel to cut the sides off the pan. Then grind what remains of the sides Untill they are flat with the floor of the pan, leave the pan floor attached and cover with hydro turf.

You could try a multitool with the cutting blade that resembles a scraper.

Before cutting anything, id try to see if a scraper would slide under.

it is a metal pan, but diffently glued down well. So would I need a superjet pan or just turf and strap tank down? Also need to mount tank strap hook. Just buy the aftermarket ones that glue to hull? I can just use U.S. Composites resin, I already have some of that resin. Thanks for reply.

There's no stock tank pan to use. In your case I'd debure the pod reminants below the tank, turf the area and the strap down the tank. Those UFO anchors like Jetmaniac sells would be good to use. You might ask him or who ever supples them to you what they would recommend for adhesion. I've seen some threads where they are being installed, some are using glass cloth over them for strength.

Ok, yeah I knew superjets don't use pans, but I saw that hurricane ind. sells them for hulls. Think I will just trim down like you suggested and turf spot in hull.

Oh I didn't know they made one for the stock tank, new of the others. Just looked on their site and saw it your right. Derrick responds to emails well, you might email him with your plans.

Also, I have siliconed an Eva block to my hull to keep my aftermarket tank from sliding left. My water box is real wide, mounted in the stock SJ battery location so the tank can't sit where it's designed to sit and slides slightly left a tad, doesn't hurt a thing but I prefer it to stay planted.

You might want to use some Eva block in key areas to keep the tank from sliding. I have some extra block, it's the grey stuff that came in a shipping container. If you pm me your address I'll ship you some if you think you'll need it.

My hull had a stock SJ tank when hull was built, no Eva block was used, the hulls tank anchore were placed real close to the tank. If the tank moved it was stopped by the anchores. If I had concern of tank rub on the hook I put a small peice of turf on tank to protect it.

Ok, I will try and email Derrick and see what he says. Thanks for your help sir!

Ok, I emailed and texted hurricane, took about a week to get a text back saying just use hammer and chisel. Said pan probably not be salvageable and just to turf hull, no cradle needed for stock Sj tanks. So I went out and stuck a long screwdriver under pan and to my surprise pan came out with not too much effort. Just had to chisel some Resin/glue off and sand down. Pan is made of fiberglass, I thought it was aluminum the from the way it looked. Pan was only glued on each side where it contacted sides of hull. Pan still usable, think anyone would want it? Getting my ufo mounts from jet maniac Monday. Chris said epoxy resin would be fine and to put cloth around for more strength. Thanks for all you guys help!
