I need to remove some dried contact cement from my gel coat. Any recs on how to remove it or should I just accept I might have to wet sand and buff it back?
If it’s Weldwood cement, I’ve used turpentine, soaking , gently agitating with a soft bristle brush. Gonna depend on how dried, ( how old ) it is.I need to remove some dried contact cement from my gel coat. Thanks Mike. Doesn't bother the gelcoat too much?If it’s Weldwood cement, I’ve used turpentine, soaking , gently agitating with a soft bristle brush. Gonna depend on how dried, ( how old ) it is.
I used turpentine to get excess glue off of cleared visual carbon which is way more delicate than gel coat, you should be fine. On clear the harsher chemicals, acetone, lacquer thinner, certain “removers” can leave the clear hazy which means it’s affecting it, where the turpentine leaves it as glossy as it was when you started. I’ve never tried but have heard Toluol/Toluene works well. I believe it’s a base component of contact cements. Thanks Mike. Doesn't bother the gelcoat too much?
