Super Jet Reinstalling Pump, driveshaft, etc. NEED HELP!

Long story short, I replaced my driveshaft with a new shaft from JM and am in the process of putting it back together. I have never done this before so I dont really know where to begin. Last night I was putting the pump stator on the driveshaft and got the bearing in place but it didnt spin as freely as it did on the other shaft. annnnnddd this is where I get lost. Does the back bearing on the shaft have to go all of the way down to the seat? Or should there be a gap? I put the prop on hand tight and it was difficult to spin the driveshaft while holding the stator. I dont have a bearing press so im putting a rag over the bearing and using a large socket to tap it down into place. The bearing seem to be intact but again Ive never done this before. Any help/advice is greatly appreaciated. Thanks!

If you don't have a press you should follow rdrttoys? (I think that's his name) thread on installing bearings in a Solas mag. He used heat and cold to assemble, works great and much safer than the old hammer method.
