Surfriding rectifier regulator

I have a bad regulator in my ebox. Could this be causing the arching of my cables. I cant even hook the battery and electronics up with out arcing and wires in ebox burning?

Thanks

It possible that the reg/rec could cause that, but its unlikely. Most often when one goes bad you find excessive AC voltage at the battery or an overcharge condition.

Unplug the reg/rec and see if it changes.

Yes, with your meter on volts DC connected to the negative and positive battery post and the engine running. The voltage will slowly creep up, record the highest voltage.

Im not sure of Yamahas spec but you should be somewhere in the 13 volt range. 14+ would be a definite overcharge. You can also test for AC voltage at the battery which would be a sign of a diode blown out in the rectifier side.

The rectifier was burnt out. My question now that I have the ebox back together could the exact same thing happen now? Does the battery need to be fixed/replaced or should I just try hooking it all up again?

thanks
