FX-1 Rear corners of Fx-1's(Like rear sponsons)

Am working on painting my Fx-1 today and was taking off the rear corner plastic pieces and noticed that even the glass underneath has been extended too, just like the plastic corner piece.
Is that supposed to some kind of rear sponsons? Like what the racers bolt on to theirs.

Just curious. Thinking about cutting that area flush and using no plastic trim at all on each corner.
What have you guys done?

Ya, thats what I was thinking about doing and then just painting/turfing the rear corners like I did on my SJ.

No, its 2 different skis both sides the same . Im leaving the old school lower sponsons off the new one
