Questions on new addition I got

Got the motor out of the 'new acquisition' from the other day (see "new addition to the fleet" post I created), and its on my bench awaiting a visual lookover of the cylinders. I attempted to start it very briefly yesterday and it fired for a moment then let out the biggest backfire I've ever been next to -at least I know I have a spark -I won't be trying a start it again until the motor has the carbs rebuilt for sure. The hull was a dirty mess, had had water sit in it for a while because there is a old water line inside, thankfully it was only a couple inches, just touched the cases a bit. The hull is empty, we are in process of cleaning it up, turf is off and hull restoration well along (pics soon)

Questions (may add more as I think of them):

-Protec head - black top on silver base - likely needs orings - best place to get them?

-Torque specs/procedures on replacement of head?

-"DBP" on side and also recently found "Dev" engraved on bottom edge of cylinder - would Protec be able to tell me what type of porting was done on this?

-Basically, I am trying to assist my son in figuring out if its worth it to put all this back together and try to run it as someone had it before, or to sell off the pipe, pump stator and drop nozzle kit and buy a B-pipe with the proceeds and use that with the existing motor. What is the pipe, pump stator (Solas 12-vein I think) and drop nozzle kit worth?

- If we decide the b-pipe route, will it run good (freestyle mainly) with the dual Riva ProSeries 48's?

Sorry about the rambling and convoluted post - as you can tell I have lots of questions - thankfully I'm in a place where you can get good answers.

O rings are either dash 043 or dash 153, in viton from mcmaster call, about $1.50 each.

I cant say which ones are the proper ones for the protec head, but I bet someone else can tell you.

- Mcmaster Carr - or Protech depending on Protec's cost.
- Call Protec and have them eMail you a .pdf instruction file for that head. Send them a picture if needed.
- No idea
- Run it as is as a tribute to your awesome deal.

this is from some other thread, originally posted by 'crockett:

ProTec
MRD
Riva

Appears they all use the same size o-rings to seal the chambers . . . .

3.500 i.d x 3.687 o.d. x .094 cross section

That's : 3 1/2" i.d. x 3 11/16" o.d. with a 3/32" cross section

Groove width is .125 to allow for "crush" when torqued."

-------------------------------------------

so according to that.

this is the one you need

9464K114
(Same as 9464K342)
Viton O-Ring AS568A Dash Number 153
In stock at $2.75 per Pack
This product is sold in Packs of 2

but im unsure if thats for the rec head, or the C3 head ( I think you have the C 3 head)

Regarding the pump - yes, it is a mag pump - anyone know what size impeller normally came on these? See the pics - it didn't have anything but the Skat brand name on it when we pulled the pump out

You will probably have to pull the prop in order to find out the pitch. It is most likely marked on the inside of the hub.
