questions about the super jet round nose

alright look i see alot of round nose super jets in the freestyle comps. but i hardly see any square noses out there. is there a big difference between the two. i have a round nose. but this guy whats to trade me for a 701 square nose that he is building up for freestyle and a paint job plus 500 dollars is this a good deal???? i will probably do the trade cause i already said i would and he has already started to build it up. but i was just wondering.

Why would you want to do the trade?
The top deck is different, that's about it.
Personally, I would stick with the roundnose (that you already have). It is far easier to get aftermarket (freestyle!) parts for it.
You should ask yourself why he wants a trade.

Round noses have more optinal parts. MY theory is. Everyone jumpe dship on the square when the roundie came out because of looks. Because of this everyone flooded it with aftermarket goodies.

Theres no super dooper advantage that I see other then you can change out hoods. There are more performance upgrades anyhow. I'm not super tech so take my ideas witha grain of salt. I bought my round because of looks, newer year model/reliablity, and price

It all depends on what is done to the ski and how he is building it. I really like the squarenose hull, they have a low profile and handle well. The roundnose looks good too but it is all a matter of preference. The rounds do have more aftermarket body parts available but you can mod the stock square hood pretty easy. A -2in roundnose pole on a squarenose makes it handle even better (depending on your size) b/c it puts you more forward on the ski and has better geometry to it. I have been on a roundnose with a -2in pole, lowered bracket and lowered hood then rode a square with a -2in roundnose pole and they felt about the same.

I would be leary of at trade, you could be getting a crap motor, a patched hull with cheap paint and a hull that is not set up for your riding style. I prefer to ride a ski and make adjustments as needed.

Dude..keep the round....your trading a 05 corvette for a 73 corvette with a "race setup" It doesnt look at as good but its got more parts which you dont know if they are good or not.

Build the round

Yeah.......he is not offering you anything you don't already have. He is just trying to get a new SJ for cheap. You have a great platform to build from right now.

I'm the one trying to get the round for a square. (I'm also the one who introduced him to this site:)
The square has a stock 701, the bearings on the crank were a little warn so it's getting replaced by a rebuilt one, it was sent out yesterday.
At this time the square is pretty much stock with the exception of a 24-7 scupper and I told Pat I'd purchase and install some 24-7 footwells for him if he wanted to subtract the cost of the wells I'd install them for free.
In the end if things go through he would have a 95% stock boat with footwells, fresh black diamond cut HT, a taylored paint job in colors of his choice and $380 in his pocket.
In my personal opinion he'll have one of the best looking squares in Washington.
Nothing will be decided until the square is finished and he has ridden it and feels comfortable with the whole thing. I need a stock round so that I can tear it down and put all of the guts into my freeride boat.
If he decides that it's not in his best interest then I'll have a sexy square I can ride until I get my round running again.

i know its going to be totally lagit. but i was just wondering if there was anything else differrant between the two than the deck and engines. i was wondering like if the round noses are way lighter or something. cause mostly i see round noses out at freestyle comps doing some tricks way better than the square noses are. but it must be the rider.

The top deck, includiing pole and all that is different. Also, the roundnose top deck is made from fiberglass, while the Squarenose top deck is something else (SMC I believe).
The steering cable on the Square has a shorter throw.
