Since I lack the time, patience and knowlege to paint my X2 well, I am considering have it done professionally. You guys know of anyone in the Tri State area that does it? Not looking for anything too fancy - probably one solid color with maybe a trim or something. I assume I could probably get this done for < $500. I already stripped it off all the decals and pieces that would need to be removed (latches, covers, bumpers, eyelets, etc.). Thanks.

I'm also in NJ and looking for someone to paint my Blaster. I just need someone to do the spraying. I will do all of the prep, and I will do the sanding after the epoxy primer is applied. I am currently finishing up some fiberglass work and will have the entire thing sanded to 80 grit waiting for primer (see pics). Most of this is done already. I have included a before and after pic, showing where this Blaster has come from.

80 Grit is a bit to much... you should have it wet sanded with a minumum of 400 grit. With 80 grit you will see every scratch, unless you plan on loading on the primer and then wet-sanding that out with 400-600 grit.

You think so? 80 is still quite smooth from what this ski had under the primer and Bondo in the first pic. I can go over it afterward with 240/400 as well. I figured that a uniform 80 would be good for the primer coat, then I would do the 400 and/or 600 on the primer. Still looking for a sprayer (and I know you can do it IHOP:))

Honestly, I thought 80 would have been too coarse, but after doing it, it seems to be just about what I would expect the primer to adhere to. I'm going to first get the entire thing to 80 and then, if recommended by the painter, I will take it to 400 or so. This ski was a basket case as far as the body goes. I picked it up from a guy on here and it had been sprayed with a previous blue coat and then primer, both of which appeared to be sprayed in damp conditions as they had bubbles and soft spots. I used a razor to get most of it off. I'm currently glassing over the oil indicator and fuel selector holes on the right side (I know that they are flex areas, but I'm going to give it a shot as I spoke with a few guys (wave jumpers) who did it with out having cracks).

Really? I thought I read somewhere that its not that expensive if you're looking for just a plain color, nothing to complex. Does Maaco do boats, too? I thought they were just cars.

Brad...I'm planning on doing mine when I get everything else done to it. I'll let you know how it goes and you're welcome to bring yours down here to shoot it. You're probably looking in the region of $100 for the paint, primer, etc., depending on what you go with.

Remember "you pay for what you get" my paint alone for my superjet was a little over 300 bucks in DuPont. Flex additive 55 bucks, a gallon of thinner to clean the gun 20 bucks. Primer I don't remember probably 50-60 for self etching.

500 bucks won't buy material! Better save a little more or get Maco.
Rattle can that thing......

I average about 120.00 for paint, you only need a quart of color.......... I have 2/3 a quart of Red and Grey right now from the last paint job last month..........

but, I am spraying singlestage urethane.......... BC/CC will cost you about a hundred more.

I sprayed BC on my current ski and would never do it again. The next time I will use Chroma one single stage. I will also choose my colors by cost. My main color was black so that was cheap with very minimal red stripes because my red was 35 bucks for a half pint. Has anyone priced one sheet of 3M 600 lately? Paper now is also gold. Don't even get me started on the price of DA paper.

So if someone said they can paint your ski for a couple hundred bucks this should signal the red flag.

True dat. I just bought a pint of single stage urethane copper, that set me back 48 dollars, including activator.
I got my primer and black, plus activator, reducer for free (Scraps!)
After paper, all my miscellaneous crap, and some paint, I'll be at ~$130. If I had to buy all of it myself, maybe $200.

I was very careful not to spill my 1/2 pint of red. I even put it on with an air brush not to waist it in over spray.

Ill bet flex additive is 60 bucks this year.
