The manual says to use neither.

I use a very thin layer grease so they don't stick to the hull and pump when the pump is pulled apart seems to prolong the life of the seal greatly.

No silicone.

I've never used anything, but that is a great idea Mark and i will do that next time.
They do tend to stick a bit when taking apart. It could prevent it from sticking a ripping.
