300/440/550 Pulling flywheel in 89' JS 550

Ok guys, this is the only part I did not have a tool for. Do you just use a 3-Jaw type puller for this? I know that we use a center type puller for the Banshee but this one obviously doesn't remove in that way. Please let me know, I need to get this flywheel off today. Thanks!

You will need to use a kawisaki specific flywheel puller.l know flywheels have been screwed up before from using other pullers. An easy way would be to go down to your local kawi dealer and go directly to the service dept and see one of the techs. They may be willing to pull it for you for a few bucks.

Sweet, thanks.... Always has to be a special damn tool :crying:

You can a Harmonic puller without issue. Some have trouble due to screwing the three bolts in to far, which damage the charge, pulser or both coils. you only have to thread the bolts the depth of the hole which is less than a 1/4".

I use a harbor freight setup which is cheap! the poor quality of the cast tool can bend and break with allot of torque. if you can spend a few more dollars and buy a better unite, but both will do the trick. you could probably get one from an auto store as a rental or free from autozone.

Getting it off is another trick........... I allways have to use heat while keeping in mind destroying the seals or electronics...... you will have to tap, not slam and break the magnets loose; however, i have Tapped pretty hard.

You'll get it off, but plan on dropping a few F----Bombs...

If you have a chance to pickup a KAW 440/550 FW puller for a good price i wouldn't pass on it.

good luck

Here is a pic of the harmonic puller

i have always had luck by tighting your center bolt of the puller then smacking that bolt with a solid hammer. tighten a bit more then repeat. I've had a crusty one once that took repeating that process 10 times or so before she finially gave.
