300/440/550 pulled and reinstalled motor...now problems!

i had to pull my motor to fix a exhaust gasket that let go on my 550. (and glass up the hole in the bottom of the hull from a log on the river) anyway, reinstalled the motor and swapped gas tanks. i was using a pjs oversized tank but with the coffman half pipe the tank was so tight i couldnt even get it out without a ton of work. anyway, put in a stock tank i had laying around. i had a bit of old oil sludge in the bottom. maybe like half a shot glass worth. i also used the pickup out of a newer 550 with the screens in the pickup.

when i got to the lake yesterday the ski fired right up. i was there to test my new ocean pro big bore nozzel on my pjs afterburner pump. warmed it up till i had water coming out the pissers then took off for a warmup lap. after warmup(maybe 30 seconds) i got into it good. with the big bore nozzel the ski has toms of low end! the ski literlly jumps out of the water now! the ocean pro nozzel is 76mm and the pjs nozzel that was on it before was 72.35mm

i think i made it for a total of a minute before the ski started to loose power so i headed to shore. i got it on the trailer and fired it back up. what is happning is the ski will start right up and idle great. if i stab the throttle it will rev right out for a couple of seconds the bog down and die. i noticed that when it was bogging if i gave it a shot with the primer it would rev right back up again. stupid me i forgot a plug wrench so i couldnt check my plugs.

i didnt think of it till this morning but maybe with the bigger nozzel i needed to adjust the carb for higher revs?

maybe i sucked some ******** up? i've ridden this ski several times this year without problems. maybe time for a carb rebuild!

this was happning on the trailer with the hood off so i know that it's not an exhaust leak. that was my first thought.

what do you guys think?

I would just start checking random things first. Check that the pulse line coming from the crankcase to the carb doesn't have any cracks in it or a loose connection. I'd also check the water separator (the small plactic cup in the fuel line) isn't full of water. Sometimes the separator can be deceiving... it doesn't look like it has water in it, but if it's completely full of water you won't be able to tell unless you take it completely off. I've had a poor running and stalled out 550 because of both of these problems.

Lastly, depending on what type of carb you are running, check that the filter in the carb isn't clogged. This would only apply if you have updated the carb to a newer style sbn44. The old bn44 carbs don't have filters in them.
