problem with 1991 550

bought a new battery runs on trailer. but once in the water starter makes weird knock noise then another noise like not good connection. but in the water runs good just wont start back up any help with whats wrong with the starter

the starter is probably bad. Take it out, open it and check for all sorts of crap/water/dust. Clean it, and check for damage - it can be fixed without buying a new one (sometimes)
