Porting a 701 SJ??

Can some of the builders here chime in? Question being is it really worth it? Close friend (knowledgeable) agrees that porting those cylinders doesnt provide the gains without other additions. Meaning, porting itself wont deliver all it's set up to be by itself.. not to say with other mods it wont b worth it... Just curious cause i've considered this too. But was told just alone isnt worth it?

I know the power gains on my sitdown ported are just INSANE>. Does this translate well to standup with 701 ports etc... Thanks and sorry for amatuer terminology.. haha

Porting is well worth the money IMO, but I would think that cylinder and case porting go hand in hand even though you only mentioned porting the cylinders, maybe you meant both but it will make a difference when getting price quotes.

Porting alone will give you good power, so will a pipe. Porting and a pipe and now you're talking. Porting, pipe and bigger carbs...

If your goal is making power then everything needs to be working around 7000 rpm. A stock 61x cyl will not make it without being cut. A stock 62T cyl comes close.

I was looking to port both the case and the cylinder. I already have speedwerx pipe, MSD, and 185psi heads. so I was thinking porting would be a good next step. thanks so far for the input.

port timing on a 62T is geared towards top end, that is why it will pull more RPM's. This cylinder is not the best for low end power.

The concept of "low end" power is largely lost on a watercraft since they are not driven against a solid media. The only thing that is felt is peak power and throttle response.
