Pole spring advice

I was looking at my Sj the other day and noticed the pole spring was inside the handlepole. On my 550s I had it on the outside of the pole. Anyone have a preference over one or the other? Will I notice a difference if I have the top bar resting on the outside of the handle pole? Sorry for the shafty picture but it's all I have and I'm at work thinking about skis instead. Thanks for the help!

Never really gave it much thought...what would be the advantage of changing the location?

My thought would be it would make the spring tighter this making the pole sit higher and feel lighter. I could be wrong though. I'm not sure.
