300/440/550 Pipe questions

How much does putting a pipe on a 91 550 sx help? I installed a freestyle cone and was highly disappointed now I have an intake grate coming but Im still thing about a pipe. Just looking for a little more jam. And I don't want to go the route of a shaved head yet. Everything else is still stock yet. Is a pipe worth the money? Or should I go the impeller route?

Yeah, freestyle cones don't really do that much. Wouldn't really consider it a performance upgrade. A pipe is the best think you can really do to a ski to give it more power.

You can get some nice one pretty cheap for a 550. Under $150 shipped.

From what I've read searching forums. There Is js and sx pipes are different and most do not say which they are for. Problem number two is with a used pipe I gotta find gaskets for it. And the third problem is many of the sellers with pipes on eBay do not ship to canada where I'm located. I've been looking at a brand new pipe which is gonna cost aroun 375 to my door.

not to down talk your ski but save that money and upgrade your ski. take that 375 sell your 550 and upgrade to at least a 650. you will even still have a little left over for a mod or two. I have riden them all and no matter what you do to that 550 it will not give you what a 650 will, same goes for from a 650 to a 750. 650s are cheap though, I have one for sale right now for under $600

BTMBOARDS I live in Alberta Canada and finding a used Jetski is tougher than finding gold. Got lucky with this one. I also have ridden a lot of different skis and being a guy that is 5' 10 and 140 lbs soaking wet I also seem to have the most fun on a 550 because it's easy to throw around for me. The one I had before was an 88 the was done up as far as you could go on pump gas so it ripped. I don't want or need to match my old one but I do want a little more power. Also a 550 fits in my truck with my yfz 450. And then I can still pull my trailer to the lake. So again I ask. How much of a difference will just adding a pipe make?

Hey man! you should give us a call i live in lloydminster but i ride with 4 guys out of edmonton all with different hulls and motors. pm if your ever interested. you can test our stuff whenever you want and see what upgrades you want to do, we all try to do different setups like for example one of us runs TL, 2 others are light weight fly wheels, some run mag pumps others ride stock.

Ride it how it is and wait for a used 701 SN to pop up for $1200-$1500. They are rare but do come up for sale every once and awhile, we've bought 3 SN's up here in that price range now

you would be good to find a factory reed half pipe.. they are the fat factory pipe, add a flow control valve and get a 15 pitch impeller and bore the nozzle out to like 68mm.. theses mods together will really wake the ski up a lot.. also there are many more 550 tech info and parts on pwctoday.com #zero on this site can bore your nozzle out for you.. theres actually a factory reed half pipe thats a direct bolt on for your ski on pwctoday.com in the classified section..

yes obviously going to a superjet will have more power but you can get your 550 to perform pretty well with just a few mods and a third of the cost of buying a superjet...
