are you using single stage or base clear? If you sanded it with 180 you need to to prime that thing! u need NO bigger then 400 grit scratches in it preferably 600 if using base clear. ur never gonna get the 180p grit scratches back out of it by just going over it with 400!!

Im just about at the same stage as you, just some sanding left. I pipcked up some krylon white primer and krylon gloss white rattle cans for paint. I wanted to get some acrylic enamel to spray on but id have to order it online and the rattle cans were only 12 bucks. I painted my tray real quick and it looked pretty good for spray cans. All i did was sand with some 150 grit, spray 5 or so very light layers of primer, then about the same layers of paint. Seems like the heavier the paint is sprayed on the smoother and glossier it gets, but i think thats just because i didnt sand the primer.

I just finished painting mine myself. I had to use 120 grit to get all the scratches and everything out then went back and wet sanded with 220. Slicked everything out and ordered some acrylic enamel and got by without having to prime mine. Everything covered well and didn't sand in between coats because it turned out so slick. I know you dont have to clear acrylic but I did so anyways to give it more of a shine and to "seal" everything off so I would feel better about it. Then after the clear you can go back and wet sand it and buff it out. But thats just my inexspensive way of doing it.

Well i pretty much have the just of it now. Im not to worried. Im going to Sherwin Williams automotive paint store tomorow to make up my paint sceam. Its going to be a dark maroon on the top deck/hood and the handpole and bottom of the hull are gonna be pearl black. Grey diamond hydro turf with toms footholds. So it should look pretty good ill post picks when im done. Just trying to find out if chemical paint remover would work on stripping the paint on the bottom of the hull. I dont feel like sanding again and if it does not take away form the structurability im going to do that. Can anyone answer this?
