painting over powder coat

...and no I don't mean that bald guy's winter attire.

Anyway...I have an AC pole that was power coated blue and want to re-paint it when I do the rest of the ski. Is it okay to paint over the powder? What prep is involved? Sand, primer?

I would strip powder.

Powder coating is more durable than paint and, in most cases, a lot less expensive. You can’t powder coat over paint but you can paint over powder coat. You should thoroughly degrease the surface and then scuff sand using a fine 320 or 400 grit abrasive sand paper. Degrease again after scuff sanding to remove loose powder and activate the surface. Thereafter, you might consider applying an epoxy primer followed by any topcoat of your choice.
