Sorry I don't know what happened there. Anyways, I know their is probably a million threads on how to paint a ski. My hull looks terrible, and I need to paint it. I want to do it cheap. I am not the richest college student ever. Any thoughts on how to do all this. I would prefer someone tell me in step by step format. Thanks!

that was less than enlightening...:dunno:

do not wipe w/ acetone after sanding.... EVER

Acetone is way too heavy for that kind of use..

this is the process:

  1. clean surfaces
  2. sand w/ 80 grit w/ a DA sander
  3. clean w/ pre-paint cleaner
  4. fill and sand w/ 80, then 180 grit w/ a DA sander
  5. block (if needed)
  6. clean w/ pre-paint cleaner
  7. prime w/ high filler primer, apply guide coat
  8. wet sand w/ 400 grit, 600 grit or 180 on a DA sander
  9. clean w/ pre-paint cleaner
  10. apply sealer (wet on wet) let dry then wipe w/ cheese cloth
  11. apply color 2-3 coats till it's fully covered wipe w/ cheese cloth
  12. apply clear 2-3 coats till it's smooth and glossy
  13. wet sand w/ 2000-3000 grit, polish w/ heavy cut cleaner then light cut
  14. remove swirls w/ foam pad and swirl remover
ride it and break it and do it again....

Hah that sounds pretty good to me. Couple questions though. What is a DA sander and what is cheese cloth?

I should add that you only fill w/ filler and sand w/ 80 grit if needed...
like dents, and so on... the filler will stick to that better than a finer grit paper

cool sounds good, I will post pics of my project ski, I am also installing footwells and new hydroturf molded diamond all around the ski. Another question though, how do the guys get decals on their skis? like red bull or a monster decal? do they put on the sticker and put clear coat over? How does all that workout?
