Paint stripper questions/advice

going to stip the paint off my motor and pipe tonight so i can finally get around to painting them (no access or money for blasting). I was wondering if the paint stripper is going to eat through my rubber base gasket on my motor??? also I assume I have to mask off the exhaust and intake ports but will the stripper eat through the masking tape as well? Would I be better off taking my stock exhaust manifold and intake out of storage and just bolting those on for when I strip it?

paint stripper is only truly safe for metal (fiberglass for 8 hours). I dont think it could fully eat your base gasket, but its volatile enough I would be worried it would weaken it quite a bit. You could instead just get a handheld media blaster from harbor freight, they sell them for about 15 bucks, and media (20 lbs) for about 25 for 60-80 grit. It would be much easier to do then paint stripper, as you will come across sections of paint that are very hard to do. I just stripped a pole and I still wound up doing some sanding to get it all.
