Just had this '01 GP800 fall in my lap the other day and since I have not dealt with a powervalve motor before I thought I'd throw some pics out there and see what everybody says... The history of this ski is that in '06 the entire motor was "replaced" (that was said in a very sarcastic tone) and sold right after that. The history gets fuzzy after that but as for as I know it ran till last summer when it blew up again. On bringing it home and opening it up the front piston screamed detonation problem. The other piston looked fine except for a possible improper break in issue.
The reason I'm asking for opinions is that there were 2 different pistons and powervalves in this motor and just wanted to verify my feeling that this ski never had a new motor installed, just a patch job. The good piston is a SBT piston where the damaged on has "ART" stamped on the inside. (Not sure if that is a stock one or not)
I also noticed on the damaged cyl the powervalve was jammed, could it have been the cause of the problem or did the piston heat cause this? I did find a cracked check valve on the pulse side of the #1 fuel pump/carb.
Any opinions? I know everybody has one:laugh2:
Art (no relation to the piston)
