ONE WAY valve ?????

i know probably half you guys have one....i got my ski torn down right now so id like to rig one up. Im getting rid of the rear exhuast completely and would like to use that area for a water dump drain and a one way. Do you use what is called a "check valve" at home depot....what size???....the 2" ones have a pretty strong spring in them and the 1" ones seem pretty small for draining......there are some sizes in between too.
Let me know what you think works best and any other pointers:)
OH and im cheap and dont have any intentions on buying some crazy expensive stuff from wamiltons or whoever
THANKS

the homedepot valve (flotec) seals 10x's better than the one you get at lowes. its around 17 bucks and it has a flapper inside. you don't want springs in the valve at all.

it looks like the one below.

just make sure to get the valve as close to the bulkhead as possible.

yup thats what i have too.. sealed it with 5200... and put a dab in the flange part to make it stiffer and stay sealed unless water pressure against it.. i also put a xmetal scupper on the back.... to clean up the looks and to block wave slapping on the internal one....

hopefully i wont sink to quick...

oh yeah i also put threads on the inside... so you can put in a cap and go for a crusie.. and be able to park anywhere and not worry about sinking.....

Grainger also has valves called "sump pump checkvalves" I have been using them for 9 years. I run 2 of them in the 2" size and dump them out in the pump area, on top of the ride plate. It makes for a really clean set up and retains the rear exhaust as well. The cost is about $27 for 2. As with any scupper, you will get some leakage when not in motion.

Im running a 2" check valve, no spring, stainless flap with a rubber seal but when I tested it in my sink it leaked a tiny bit nothing my bilge cant make up for. I also ran mine out the pump cavity, it may be a little more work but it makes for a cleaner look and protects it from water blasting into the valve.

I have the Home Depot check valve(the one Demolition X posted), I mounted it on the firewall side and it doesnt leak. BUT, if I were to do it again, I would have put it in the pump cavity.

thanks for the pointers....
in my mind i can argue for the valve to be near the rear and towards the engine bay.....
someone give me a good reason where to put it
i can definitely understand going into the pump area though

you want it as far forward as you can. this way more water sits against the valve to hold it shut when its not moving and in theory when you land from a jump the air inside the tube will stop a rush of water slamming the scupper shut. at least thats my take on it.

Too far back and you can break it coming down from a high jump wen landing tail first. Too far forward and you're setting yourself up for a nightmare if you ever have to go back in there to replace or repair it. Mine's about a foot or so from the back.
