my oem start/stop just today won't let me kill the engine with the stop button or my lanyard. Is it just a matter of scuffing the contacts to clean it up or should I look elsewhere? It allows me to fire the ski right up without hesitation.

Unplug the plug with the black and white wires. Start ski and jump the black to white on the ebox side of the harness (not the handpole/start stop side). A pair of needle nose pliers works well for this-just touch the two prongs with the ends of the pliers. If it cuts off the issue is in your switch...............If it does not die, then check the black wire (ebox side) to ground with an ohmmeter for continuity/low resistance. A bad ground can cause this as well. You want to see an ohm reading of close to 0.

It could also be corrosion in your plug connection, but you will see its condition when you unplug it :)

I've had the same problem for months now. I've been too lazy to fix it, so I dialed down my idle to nothing.

John at JSS does away with the boot and puts a small stainless sleeve with an oring on the lanyard connection. I got 2 done 2 years ago and they have worked great. cost me like $65 each but better than spending money on a used one that may already be compromised.
