Nozzle boring

When boring the nozzle, does anyone actually put a taper in it like they say it has from the factory, or just set the mill to 85 or 86 and plunge it........................

dang that is big,you must be super thin towards the end,what prop you run that in? Im gonna try a shorter cone with my 85.5 and 10/16 hoker

13 17 concord with the stock cone but im going to try a big hub swirl Soon. It revs up super quick! But i def lost some higher rpms that i never use anyways. Im also running a limited 61x

If you want it done right it should have a slight taper.

When boring them straight you won't even remove any material at the front of the nozzle.

Also choosing the right nozzle for you setup makes a big difference because they all have different angles.

i got mine with a 86mm tapered bore on it. yea its very thin towards the end. running it with a stock 08 prop and wammer cone. works pretty good so far.

I used a standard nozzle with a WW cone half of last summer with a 9/15 hooker. I switched to a 85mm straight bored nozzle that probably helped but it wasn't very noticeable since only about an inch actually gets bored. Wasn't worth the effort for straight bore. I switched to a taper bored 62t nozzle and noticed a huge improvement but it's difficult to keep the pump loaded up with a WW cone and the taper bored nozzle. I'll try a stock cone soon to see what the difference is.

How are you guys getting them tapered? Just tell the machinist 2 or 3*?

This is a stock nozzle that came with my thrust innovations trim kit..................................

It has to be machined on a lathe using a long boring bar with replicable carbide tips and a six jaw chuck fixture is needed to hold the nozzle in place. Also it helps to have a 4-inch tapered live center to correctly position the nozzle before boring it. You should taper bore it using close to the same angles as on the outside casting so it will be the same thickness throughout. If you need to have your reduction nozzle taper bore just send me a PM and I'll quote you a price with shipping. The chart posted above will tell you the stock angles and diameters for each type nozzle.

Ive got a badazz local guy, but he dont habla mucho well......................If I can draw it or explain it, he can do it.

He has most everything in his shop......................I'll let you know if he cant do it. Thanks!

We were just talking about this tonight,how does the 62t nozzle with a 21 degree reduction compare to the 61x with the 25.5 deg in low end performance if both were at the same 82 mill bore

waternut,what size was the 62t taper bored nozzle,I just added a ww cone to a 10/16 hooker with a 85.5 nozzle on a decent powered 5 mill stroker and didnt see any big diff,it seems to make the pump vibrate more trying to stay loaded,may have been something else,not sure.

Phil ...pretty sure all the trim nozzles are 62t ,mine was.

#zero, Phil and I live pretty close and a few other guys in our crew need nozzles bored send me pm with a price for taper boring a group of them together.
lets talk sizes here,what are the best type nozzles to run for freeride and freestyle and what size bore for basic 5 mill strokers and big bores running hooker props? Seems like in the pump reference thread most guys are running 85 to 86 but x or t is not listed

good info in that thread thanks. Im running a 62t nozzle with a thrust trim system and dont really wana have to custom weld tabs to a 61x. The ww cone I just added to the 62t 85.5 nozzle 10/16 hooker needs some more testing in surf and white water before I can decide if im keeping it or not
